Newcomer Nutrition Education Toolkit
Alberta Health Services Public Health Dietitians is happy to share that Nutrition Lessons for English Language Learners are now available!
These lesson plans were initially developed by Ottawa Public Health and ESL/LINC Educators from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board; they have been adapted and updated by our dietitian team.
What are the Nutrition Lessons for English Language Learners?
- The lessons are for anyone who teaches ESL or LINC and would like to include healthy eating information in their teaching.
- The lessons have been reviewed by language educators in Alberta. The lessons follow PBLA guidelines for Foundation Literacy and CLB 1 – 5.
- The lessons come complete with instructor notes, activity sheets, and assessments.

The Newcomer Nutrition Education Toolkit is a collection of nutrition teaching resources for audiences with basic English literacy and diverse cultural backgrounds. The Toolkit includes the lesson plans, presentations to use with groups, printed displays, videos, and more.
