Banff National Park for English Learners

Bring Banff National Park to your classroom with free Parks Canada virtual programs for English language learners. Participants will learn about what makes Banff special and how to enjoy Canada’s national parks responsibly, all while developing their English language skills. Programs are geared to a range of Canadian Language Benchmark levels and are available to LINC-funded classes in the Southern Alberta with a minimum of 20 students.

Presentations:

1) Plan Your Park Adventure in Banff National Park National

Parks are special but fragile places. Careful planning will help you have a safe and rewarding visit while protecting the very things that make Banff National Park special. Students will learn about popular summer activities as well as some of the tools, resources and tips for planning a visit to Canada’s first national park.
Length: 60 minutes (presentation 30 minutes, Q&As 30 minutes)

2) Wildlife and You

One of the most exciting things about visiting Banff National Park is the chance to view wildlife like bears and elk in their natural environment. Participants in this program will identify and learn about some of these animals, and what they can do to keep both themselves and wildlife safe.

Length: 90 minutes (presentation 30 minutes, Q&As 30 minutes)

3) Life Lines – Exploring Banff’s Wildlife Corridors and Crossings

This program introduces students to some of the animals that call Banff National Park home along with some of the challenges they face. Students will learn about how technology and careful management are helping wildlife move safely through the park, as well as actions they can personally take to support park wildlife.

Length: 60 minutes (presentation 30 minutes, Q&As 30 minutes)

4)   Preparing for a Winter Adventure in Banff National Park

The key to enjoying a Canadian winter in the Rocky Mountains is good preparation. Students will learn about winter activities they can do in Banff and some of the risks associated with them. Students will also get helpful tips for staying safe and learn about some of the many resources available to plan a park visit in winter.
