April 20: Let’s Talk About: Oral Language for Literacy Development
Please join us on Thursday, April 20th from 4:00-5:00 PM (MST) to talk about considerations for developing oral language in the literacy class. Jeremy Wilson will give a short presentation and facilitate a discussion on this topic.
Discussion topics will be:
- What routines and activities do you use in class to help your learners develop oral language?
- How do you recycle the same oral language in different contexts?
- What kinds of oral language do you find to be particularly important or useful for your learners and how do they practice these? (ex. greetings, directions, making requests, personal information, time etc.)
- What are some strategies for engaging reluctant learners to participate in chants/singing/clapping/TPR/gestures etc.?
