Manager, Columbia Immigrant Centre for Foundational Skills Training

Columbia College Calgary is looking for a visionary, passionate, and dedicated professional to lead a highly motivated and skilled team in our Immigrant Centre for Foundational Skills department. This is a full-time position starting in spring 2025, the exact start date is negotiable.

The department manager will demonstrate a supportive management style by effective goal setting and teamwork approach. They are required to have at least a 4-year degree in adult education or a similar field, highly organized, present effective communication skills,  and attention to details. Leadership experience and background in working for funded language training programs is required.

Some of duties include:

  • Manage and oversee the effective delivery of the department’s programs and courses; provide support and leadership in these areas
  • Progressively work on delivery of training programs that respond to the needs of immigrants and the community
  • Design, develop, specialized courses/curriculum/workshops to enhance students’ educational and professional development
  • Take a leadership role in development of new fee-paying courses and services
  • Lead in the writing of proposals for new and ongoing programs and courses.
  • Meet regularly with internal stakeholders to review such areas as program/course development, enrollment numbers, student progress and faculty development
  • Continuously monitor the implementation of government policies in program delivery. Keep abreast of the changes in policies and ensure their implementation
  • Participate in long-range planning based on emergent training information, the needs of the community, as well as, changing immigration trends and policies
  • Sit on committees associated with respective programming and be an ambassador of Columbia College including but not limited to IRCC Language meeting, EAL Provincial meetings, CLARC Advisory and LINC City Service Providers’ quarterly meetings
  • Research current trends and information regarding English language and Foundational Skills training, programs and courses, maintaining continual current knowledge in this field
  • Assist to develop/implement an annual plan for these programs, and regularly report to stakeholders as to the progress and achievement of results/outcomes
  • Provide professional development training opportunities to faculty and other stakeholders with respect to best practices to support student success and retention in these programs
  • Provide regular supervision of faculty and staff, evaluate performance, and follow up on their action plans
