LINC Education Assistant

Organization: Columbia College

The EA will assist the course facilitators with the learning support to the students enrolled in the LINC Program. This individual will actively work in close collaboration with classroom facilitators to support classroom instruction and course management to better meet the needs of specific students as they progress toward their educational goals. This individual will also be responsible to assist the classroom facilitator in administration of assessments/assignments/projects or other teaching areas requested by the facilitator. Providing group workshops on specific topics is an essential part of this job. This position requires a minimum education level equivalent to a four-year degree; a certificate or diploma in an English as a Second Language education context is required. These academic requirements should be supplemented by experience in using technology in adult education context.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the Program Supervisor during PBLA binder orientation for new LINC students on a weekly basis.
  • Assist with the administration of students’ assessments/assignments/tests/exams/quizzes under the direction of the Program Supervisors and LINC facilitators. Ensure Master Marksheets are updated at all times.
  • Provide teaching support to the class facilitator as per the facilitator’s request.
  • Provide tutoring support as requested.
  • Work to develop an understanding of the unique educational needs of the students concerned; work with the classroom facilitators to identify areas of potential growth and provide students with one-on-one or small group tutorial support.
  • Assist students in developing appropriate study and organizational skills needed to make progress in a learning environment.
  • Apply a variety of intervention strategies to meet the needs of individual students, from one-on-one tutoring, small group activities, workshops or others.
  • Further support the delivery of the LINC Program by providing support in using technology in the classroom and training students in using tools and problem solving.
  • Support facilitators during Students’ Conferencing Day, participate in the sessions as needed.
  • Act as a substitute LINC facilitator when required.
