EAP Instructor (contract)

Job Description:
Mount Royal University’s English Language Program is hiring an instructor for the LEAP (Learn English for Academic Purposes) Program, a full-time, non-credit program for domestic and international English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners. The focus of the full-time LEAP program is classroom-delivered academic English courses that prepare learners for entry into post-secondary study. Reporting to the English Language Program Manager, we are looking for an instructor for a twice-weekly EAP course focusing on receptive skills development and a
weekly online grammar course for the spring semester.

Our instructors are responsible for bringing adult education expertise and familiarity with current research in language learning to the classroom through engaging learning plans that meet the standards of the prescribed curriculum and syllabus. The successful candidate will be able to apply appropriate methods to best meet learner needs, plan activities that both engage student interest and develop skills, assess proficiency with both formative and summative tools, and communicate and collaborate professionally with others in the department.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree and TESL training recognized by TESL Canada.
  • Experience teaching English to adults (EAP instruction in a post-secondary
    setting is preferred)
  • Ability to teach across English language proficiency levels
  • Research-informed practice in the discipline supported by continued
    professional development.
  • Proven intercultural communicative competence
  • Proficient with both using and supporting students and administrative
    processes with technology (Google Suite, MS Office, and course management
    software)

Course dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 5 - August 13, 2025, with student consultations on final grade reports on Friday, August 15.
The start date of May 1 reflects the opportunity to visit the campus for an orientation to the program and the course before the first class.

Course Hours: 9:00 am - 2:30 pm
Preparation, grading and meeting times are paid.
