Curriculum Development Specialist - ISS

Catholic Social Services is accepting proposals for curriculum development to support a new program based in Red Deer Immigration and Settlement Service. Proposals will be accepted until May 1, 2025.

Position Summary

As a Curriculum Development Specialist, you will develop a customized curriculum tailored to the needs of CLB 3-5 learners with a focus on preparing participants for employment in the food service industry. The job readiness curriculum will be used to deliver four weeks of in-person training on-site in our Red Deer office. Participants will then be placed in practicums of 2 weeks in length at a local food service business. The training will equip participants with competencies and confidence to apply their learning in real-world settings.

In consultation with subject matter experts, you will design themed workshops covering:

  • Canadian workplace culture in food service environments;
  • Food service standards and occupational requirements;
  • Preparation for the Alberta-approved Food Safety (Food Handler) Certification;
  • Effective workplace communication;
  • Career planning and job readiness skills related to the food service industry; and
  • Related labour laws and employment rights.

You will create English language materials that emphasize industry-specific terminology, scenarios, and concepts relevant to the food service sector, and employ adult education principles in designing a learner-centered curriculum that fosters cultural sensitivity, engagement and effective learning outcomes. The time required to complete the deliverables is estimated to be 150 hours.

The final curriculum and materials must be completed by July 31, 2025.

Include the following information in your proposal:

  • Education and experience in curriculum development and instructional design for adult ESL learners
  • Cost to develop curriculum and materials
  • Confirmation of WCB (or a letter from WCB confirming exemption)
  • Quotation (if GST is charged, provide GST #)

Preference will be given to candidates residing in Red Deer/Central Alberta. Knowledge of the Red Deer employment/settlement sector is an asset. Travel to Red Deer may be required.
