Working with Trauma-Affected English Language Learners

Feb 25, 2025

5:00 - 6:30 PM MST

In this online workshop, we will look at how trauma impacts an individual, their learning, and the learning environment. Though much of what EAL/ESL teachers do is already in line with trauma-informed care, this session is an opportunity to add to your toolbox. You will learn ways to respond to trauma stories, teach self-regulation techniques, and create classroom spaces in which all learners can learn to cope with the effects of trauma and thereby unlock their learning potential.

Presenter: Rosalia dela Cruz has been an EAL practitioner for over 30 years, combining her experience in the Philippines and Canada. Though her first love is classroom teaching, she has also worked in language assessment, curriculum development, and teacher training, and is currently the Alberta Routes Regional Advisor for Central Alberta.

All are welcome!
