Let’s Talk About Using Whole-Part-Whole in the Literacy Classroom
Oct 17, 2024
Please join us on Thursday, October 17th at 4PM (MST).
In this session Elsie Johnson will demonstrate the whole-part-whole method and explain how she uses it in her class.
This approach is especially relevant to teaching adult literacy learners as it provides for the use of both top-down and bottom-up strategies, can provide context and motivation for learning and assist in planning instruction.
Elsie will walk us through how to approach a reading using this method and share an art project her learners created using the story My English School.
Topics for discussion will include:
- Have you used the whole-part whole approach in your class?
- What are the benefits of combining top-down and bottom-up activities?
- How do you decide which parts to teach in your activities?
Please email DonnaClarke@Immigrant-Education.ca for the ZOOM link to this session.
