Let’s Talk About Successful Language Learning Habits and Strategies
Nov 21, 2024
Please join us on Thursday, November 21st, at 4PM (MST).
In this workshop Setsu Kawahara will outline some of the challenges faced in literacy and lower-level learner instruction. She will highlight some basics around instruction, brainstorm ideas around implementing new initiatives and discuss how making incremental steps towards small goals benefits learners. The aim of this workshop is to intertwine the learning of language, and successful language learning habits and strategies, with that crucial development of learner autonomy.
Topics for discussion will include:
- What is your single best piece of advice for a new literacy instructor?
- How do you introduce new ideas into your classes that may be challenging even for higher level classes, like Truth and Reconciliation, Inclusion or the 2SLGBTQIA+ movement? Do you have any tips to share?
- How do you manage varying literacy levels in the same class? (whether multi-level or literacy learners in mainstream classes)
