Let’s Talk About Picture Narrative Tasks
Feb 20, 2025

Please join us on Thursday, February 20th at 4PM (MST).
In this session, Mercedes Veselka from York University will share how reimagining literacy as more than reading and writing inspired the development of an activity combining images and storytelling. In this workshop, she will explore how picture narrative tasks both support the development of reading and writing and are grounded in the rich literacies learners already have. The purpose of this workshop is to provide both a practical activity to use in the literacy classroom, and to inspire new activities based on the diverse strengths of our learners.
Topics for discussion will include:
- What strengths and literacies do you notice in your learners? How have you or could you build these literacies into classroom routines?
- Have you ever tried picture-based or arts-based activities? What struggles and surprises came up?
- What are places of joy for you and your learners in the classroom?
