This resource is a substantial collection of classroom activities by language skill and the following 8 themes: recreation, shopping, health, housing, employment, using the phone, instructions, laws and bylaws. Activities are sequenced and organized into thematic units. Speaking/listening activities develop the language competencies described in CLB 3-4, and include board games, discussions, pair work, surveys, strip stories, communication games, puzzles, information gap, role-plays, debates, dialogues, listening activities, pronunciation activities, and more. Reading and writing activities are based on CLB 3 language competencies and include short readings along with vocabulary, fill in the blank, comprehension questions, and follow-up writing activities (personal messages, copying, filling out forms, short texts). Activities in the speaking/listening section of the manual are linked to activities in the reading/writing section. The resource is accompanied by an audio tape.
